Mayor Fred Jung Calls "Special" Council Meeting

In a sneaky move, Mayor Fred Jung and his council majority scheduled a special city council meeting for May 13th, 2025. Typically, City Council Meetings are the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

But after increasing public pushback towards the Council's recent policies, the Mayor scheduled a special City Council Meeting for next week - hoping to avoid a big crowd for one of his most contentious issues yet.

The Topic: Ending General Law Status and Becoming a Charter City

On May 13th, 2025 the City Council hopes to take advantage of a small crowd in chambers and direct City Staff to begin the process of becoming a Charter City. In lock step with Huntington Beach, Mayor Fred Jung is hoping to consolidate power. What this could mean for you:

Charter Cities may enact local taxes with far less constraint than Common Law Cities.
Charter Cities can consolidate Council and Mayoral power and curb public comment.

Charter Cities face much higher legal costs as they are more susceptible to legal challenges.

Charter Cities can more easily increase pay for City Council Members and the Mayor.

Charter Cities face isolation from State and County authorities and organizations.

Charter Cities can be less forthcoming to the public in contract negotiations and labor agreements.

Don't Want Fullerton to Become a Charter City?

Join members of the community on Tuesday, May 13th at 5:00 PM for the City's Special Council Meeting where Mayor Fred Jung and City Council Members will hear public comment on this agenda item.

Mayor Fred Jung is expecting low attendance as this is a special meeting. It's imperative that our community show up and ensure our voice is heard. Please join your fellow neighbors and Fullertonians May 13th, 2025 at 5:00 PM at Fullerton City Council.
